Julich Chiral Solutions GmbH was founded in 1999 in Jülich near the well-known Research Centre. Julich is focussed on the screening, development and application of novel enzymes for biocatalysis.

Julich a broad range of specialty enzymes for enantioselective organic synthesis. These catalysts are very useful for the preparation of optically pure key intermediates for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Available enzymes can be classified in the following groups: Hydrolases and lyases such as esterases, lipases, nitrilases and oxynitrilases. Many of these enzymes are new and in some cases recombinant. New biocatalysts are also explored in cooperation with Prokaria, a leading company in sequence-based discovery and screening of the natural diversity from extreme environments such as the biosphere of arctic areas and hot springs of Iceland.

Julich also applies specialty enzymes for the production of chiral compounds. Especially, alcohol dehydrogenases are applied for the synthesis of optically active alcohols, diols and hydroxy ester. Besides some catalogue products Julich also offers custom synthesis of chiral compounds. These products are presently produced on gram to multi kilogram scale. Capacities for the multi-tonne production of different optically active alcohols are available in cooperation with WACKER SPECIALITIES.
Julich offers also R&D services in the field of biotransformation. We are a competent partner for customers who are developing technical processes using biocatalysts. Based on the substrate specificity of every enzyme good indications for the application of these biocatalysts in organic synthesis can be given. We are confident to find a solution to your problem!
